Friday Memo for March 4, 2016

SCBA Families,

We trust that you have had a wonderful week! We just want to remind you of a few things as we wrap up this week and head into the weekend…

  • Dress Guidelines –   The weather is changing, and we are moving into spring.  Please be aware that as the weather changes certain dress code violations become more obvious.  Now that warm weather is here, tights and stockings no longer mask the shortness of the skirts.  According to the new policy this year, all skirts are to fall BELOW the knee.  Also, with the warm weather, sweatshirts tend to be worn less.  Please be sure that all ladies are wearing tank tops/camis/undergarments that are either neutral or match the color of the polo/chapel shirt.  In the past, we have seen young ladies with white polo shirts wearing a bright camis/tank tops/or undergarments. The staff dislike addressing dress code as much as the students dislike hearing it; however, it is necessary for us to do so.  We are asking for your help instead.  Please take an inventory of your student’s closet to see if your student has outgrown their uniform.  If so, remove those items so that they do not accidently wear it.  Remember that school uniforms must be purchased from Land’s End.  Contact the Academy office if you have questions about Land’s End.

Click here for the SCBA dress guidelines. Click here to be taken to the SCBA Land’s End website.

  • Car Line – This seems to be a recurring situation. When you are in car line, please do not get out of your vehicle. This has been stressed on several occassions during this school year yet we continue to have parents get out of their vehicle. Also, please use the marked parking spaces if you need to park. Don’t simply move “out of the way.” The parking lot is a very busy place in the mornings and afternoons. Your observance of these items will make the parking lot a much safer place for everyone.
  • Finances – We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Jeanne Kelsey (a faithful member of South Charlotte Baptist Church) has come on staff to help us manage the financial accounts. She is only part time as of now working in the office on Fridays. Some of you have already had the pleasure of speaking with her. Should you have a question about your account, please contact the Academy office. If you call on a day other than Friday, the office staff will forward you to Mrs. Kelsey’s voice mailbox for you to leave a message. You may also contact her via email at (We are working to be able to allow access to your financial accounts via ParentsWeb. That will be coming soon.)
  • ParentsWeb – There are a number of parents that we know who have not accessed ParentsWeb yet this year. Please do so. It is an excellent way to stay informed and communicate with the school. Click here to log on. If you are having difficulty creating a ParentsWeb account, please contact the Academy office. We can create the initial log on credentials for you and then you can changes those things after logging in to your account.
  • 2016-2017 School Year – The enrollment process for next year is well underway and we have had good response. Our K3 and K4 classes for next year are only a couple of students away from being full. Many of our current families have not re-enrolled for next year. Even if you are not planning to return, please let us know that. Click here to view directions on how to begin the re-enrollment process.  You will need to be able to access ParentsWeb in order to complete the re-enrollment process.
  • Upcoming Dates – Please be aware of the following events that are coming up:
    • The 7th-12th grade classes will have their “Nine Week’s” exams the week of March 14th.
    • March 21-25 is “Spirit Week.”
    • March 28-April 1 is Spring Break.

How Much Does It Cost to Attend SCBA?

The one question that seems to cross most people’s minds when they are considering enrolling their child at South Charlotte Baptist Academy is, “How much does it cost?

Click here to view the 2016-2017 Tuition and Fee information!

That is a legitimate question. It is true that enrolling your child at South Charlotte Baptist Academy is going to cost more then sending them to a public school. However, it will not cost as much as sending them to most other private schools in the Charlotte are.

However, instead of considering your child’s education a cost, we would encourage you to view it as an investment! There is no substitute for a good foundation and the education – both mentally and spiritually – that your child will receive at South Charlotte Baptist Academy will – in the years to come – be well worth any investment that you make!

2016-2017 Re-Enrollment Process

At times, working with technology can be difficult. With that thought in mind, if you are having difficulties with the re-enrollment process, please take a look at the following “screen shots” to help you “see” what you should be “seeing” and looking for!

  1. Go to and, in the upper right hand corner, click on “ParentsWeb.”

2. You will then see the following screen. It is here where you will fill in your username/password. Use the “Forgot Username/Password” if necessary or click “Create New ParentsWeb Account” if you have never logged in to ParentsWeb. (Note: SCL-NC is our Disctrict Code.)

3. Once you have logged on to ParentsWeb, you will click the “Family Information” link in the left column.

4. After you have clicked on “Family Information,” you will be given further options under the “Family Information” link. You will want to click on the “Enrollment/Reenrollment” link.

5. It is at that point that you will be able to “Start Enrollment Packet” for your child. (Or choose which child to start with if you have multiple children enrolled.)

6. From that point, you simply walk through the process of providing or verifying information that is on file for your child. You will be able to follow your progress in the window which will be on the left side of your screen. After you have successfully completed each step, you will see a green check mark appear next to that step. (See picture below.)

7. However, if you see a caution triangle next to one of the steps, that means you have completed some aspect of that step. (See picture above.)

8. If you are unable to complete the enrollment process at one time, don’t worry! After you complete each step, you are able to “save” your work and you may come back to it at a later time. (Notice in the following picture that there is the option to “edit” Mollie’s re-enrollment packet.)

9. Once you have completed the process, you will go to “Enrollment Packet Review” where you will be able to review all of the information that you submitted. You will also have the opportunity to view a PDF of all the information that you submitted. You can then save a copy of the information for your records if you would like.

10. (See the picture above.) Once you are satisfied with the information that you submitted, you will click the “Complete Review and Submit Enrollment Packet.”

11. The next screen will inform you of the re-enrollment/registration fee that is due and will give you the option to “Submit Enrollment Packet and Make Payment.”

Should you have difficulty, please contact the Academy office at (704) 544-7323.

Educational Affordability Options

Parents, There are some options available to the families of South Charlotte Baptist Academy to help make their child’s education more affordable. Although this event is being hosted by another private school in the Charlotte area, the speakers at this event, particularly the speakers for the Children’s Scholarship Fund and NC Opportunity Scholarship, will be providing information that can/could be used at South Charlotte Baptist Academy. South Charlotte Baptist Academy plans to have a representative at this meeting gathering information that can be shared with our parents but you are also invited to attend in person. Below, you will find information about this event:

We’ve come to the end of the first quarter!

Child-Cheering-Thumbs-UpIt’s hard to believe that it will be November next week! The stores are ready for Christmas! (I, though, am not!)

We have had a wonderful first quarter and I want to thank you for allowing South Charlotte Baptist Church & Academy the opportunity to come along side of you in the training of your children! I know that the teachers have been doing “double duty” this week in making an effort to speak with many of you and I want to thank you for your flexibility in arranging your schedules to do that. During this first quarter I have also had the opportunity to speak, one-on-one, with many of you. If I can ever do anything for you, please do not hesitate to contact me!

As we get into the second quarter of this year I want to remind you of the following as it relates to our dress guidelines: (You may find the entire dress guideline by clicking here.)

  • Outwear (sweaters, sweatshirts, coats, and jackets), worn in the classroom, must be of a solid color, matching the colors allowed for uniform polo shirts. Land’s End has several nice options for jackets, etc. that I know some of the students have already purchased.
  • If their outwear is not of a solid color matching our school colors, the students will be asked to remove it and hang it up while in the classroom.

  • Shorts or pants (Skorts and jumpers may be worn by young ladies). Tights are not to be worn without one of the previous items over top. Denim and cargo pants are acceptable for preschool.
  • For girls, leggings should not be worn. Only socks or tights.

Chapel Attire

Some students are still not wearing proper attire on Chapel Day, which is Tuesday of every week.

  • Girls (K5-4th grade): Ladies’ white, long or short-sleeved Oxford shirt with white plaid jumper
  • Girls (5th-6th grade): Plaid skirt, instead of a jumper, with dress shoes. (Evergreen knee highs optional). Ladies’ blue ¾ sleeve Oxford shirt.
  • Girls (7th-12th grade): Ladies’ blue ¾ length sleeve oxford shirt with plaid box pleat skirt.
  • Boys (K5-6th grade): White long or short sleeve Oxford dress shirt, gray pants (no shorts) and uniform navy/gold stripe tie.
  • Boys (7th-12th grade): White long sleeve Oxford shirt, gray dress pants and navy/gold stripe tie.

Encouragement for Every Parent

“Christian parents must have an active goal and philosophy of training their children…God’s goal for our children is not just for them to stay out trouble…The goal of every Christian parent ought to be that his children grow up to be godly, not just good.”
(Taken from the book, “Training Your Children to Turn Out Right: A Biblical Guide for Christian Parents” by David Sorenson)
